In the period from August 1st, 2011 to March 31, 2012, Fondacija fami will be implementing the project “ Multi-sectoral approach to HIV prevention and healthy life-styles promotion among the youth in BiH” in two BiH, Doboj and Sarajevo Centar. The project is supported by the United Nations Development Program withing the program “Coordinated National Response to HIV/AIDS in a War-torn and Highly Stigmatized Setting”, financed by the he Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The overall project goal is to make the services of HIV and AIDS prevention and healthy life styles promotion in the community sustainable and more accessible to young people, for the purpose of which primary health care and family medicine undoubtedly play a major role. The direct beneficiaries of the project are family medicine doctors and nurses, but also other health and non-health professionals in the community that work with young people (psychologists and social workers from mental health center and social welfare center, pedagogues and teachers from schools, members of youth and non-governmental organizations dealing with youth, and others). The final beneficiaries are, naturally, young people from the two municipalities. Training of health and non-health professionals on youth-friendly approach, healthy life-styles promotion, HIV and AIDS prevention and multi-sectoral collaboration in working with youth, facilitation for practical tasks, development of guidelines, procedures, collaboration protocols, promotional material, organizing round tables and public discussions, are some of key planned activities.

By training health and non-health professionals, systematic networking and improvement of existing services and promotion of the services in the community the existing capacities of institutions and individuals will be better used and improved, thus contributing to youth heath improvement.
