The healthcare system in Canton 10 is richer for 14 more qualified and competent community nurses who have successfully completed additional training in community nursing and passed Professional Board Exams.

Over the past few months, nurses employed at the primary health care centers of Tomislavgrad, Livno, Kupres, Glamoc and Drvar
have attended a professional development program envisioned to improve the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality community nursing care. The training consisted of theoretical and practical parts, with a special focus on modern principles of community nursing, health promotion, disease prevention and provision of home based patient and family care.

This activity is alined with the Order on Standards and Norms of Health Care in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which clearly defines that nurses who have completed additional training in community nursing can provide these services. In this way, it is ensured that community nursing services will be provided by competent health professionals.

Strengthening the capacity of community nursing is particularly important for the development of accessible, high-quality and patient-oriented health care. Community nurses play a key role in nursing care provision in home settings, health education of the population, support to chronically ill patients, the elderly, mothers and children, as well as other vulnerable categories of the population who often face barriers to health care access.

This training has further strengthened the capacities of healthcare institutions in Canton 10 to provide comprehensive community nursing care, that is, to improve the continuity of health care, increase the availability of services at the local level and strengthen the connection between the health system and the community it provides serves to.

The special value of this program is the fact that health professionals from several municipalities in Canton 10 attended the training, contributing to the balanced development of community nursing throughout the canton and creating the conditions for even better support to patients regardless of their place of residence.

The training represents an important step in the continuous improvement of nursing practice and strengthening the health system within the community.

Fami Foundation continues to support activities aimed at developing health professional competencies and strengthening community nursing model, with the purpose of ensuring better quality, more accessible and sustainable health care for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
