Representatives of 15 primary health care centers, hospitals and other health institutions in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina attended a workshop to enhance their managerial and communication skills.

How to manage a team under the challenging circumstances? How to provide a useful feedback to a colleague? How to resolve a conflict before it becomes a problem? These were among the questions addressed by participants during the practical sessions of four-day workshop “Development of Managerial and Communication Skills for Nurses", organized under Strengthening Nursing in Bosnia and Herzegovina project.

Modern nursing implies much more than professional and clinical competencies. In their daily practice, nurses should maintain effective communication with patients, family members and colleagues; demonstrate capabilities in work organization, decision making, team leadership and effective performance in challenging and stressful situations. Consequently, improving managerial and communication skills is an important element of continuous professional development.

Through interactive lectures, practical exercises, real life simulations and group work the participants had the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in team leadership, communication, conflict resolution, providing and receiving feedback, work organization and building quality interpersonal relationships within healthcare institutions.

Special emphasis was placed on the exchange of experiences among participants. Through open dialogue and analysis of examples from everyday practice, the participants discussed the challenges that nurses face in different work environments, as well as ways to overcome them through mutual support, understanding and shared learning.

The workshop once again confirmed that investing in the development of communication and leadership competencies directly
contributes to better work organization, strengthening team spirit and creating a positive work environment, which ultimately reflects on the quality of healthcare provided to end users.

The development of nursing is not only reflected in the acquisition of new professional knowledge. It is equally shaped by people who are willing to learn from each other, share experiences and together build better, safer and more humane healthcare environment.
