The “Medical Education Reforms-MER” project delegation from Kyrgyzstan visited Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) from 27 May to 1 June 2018. MER project is focused on the improvement of the medical education and training quality and their adjustment to the health system needs in the rural areas of Kyrgyzstan. The nine-member delegation was composed of MER project team members, representatives of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, the Medical Colleges Association, a Nursing Faculty, the Nurses Professional Association and a health facility.

Fami Foundation presented to the delegation the achievements of the completed Family Medicine Implementation Project in BiH, as well as the current Strengthening Nursing in BiH project. The delegation also met with the representatives of the FBIH Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republika Srpska, Medical Faculty Banja Luka, FBIH Public Health Institute, RS Public Health Institute, RS Agency for Certification, Accreditation and Health Care Quality Improvement (ASKVA), Primary Healthcare Center Tuzla, University Clinical Center Tuzla, Nurses Association in FBiH and others and discussed nurses education and professional associations as well as the improvement of the community nursing in BiH.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has been providing support to the MER project since 2008 with backstopping support from the University Hospitals of Geneva, otherwise a Consortium partner of Fami Foundation. MER project is consisted of the following components: Education Policy Advice & Development, Institutional Strengthening & Capacity Building, Quality Assurance, Standards and Curriculum development, Teaching and Learning Technologies.
